When you engage with the Space and Astronomy Parkes and Compact Array Observatories through this PORTAL, CSIRO may collect certain personal information about you. When it does, your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). CSIRO will handle your information in accordance with this Act as otherwise required by law.
We encourage everyone to use the Wiradjuri names gifted to our Parkes Observatory telescopes. For example, the 64m telescope should be referred to as ‘Murriyang, CSIRO's Parkes radio telescope’ in the first instance in publications, presentations and general communication. Once the dual name has been used, the telescope(s) can be referred to more informally, for example as ‘Murriyang’, ‘the Parkes telescope’ or ‘The Dish’, at the discretion of the author or speaker. You may also wish to acknowledge the Wiradjuri people as the Traditional Owners of the Observatory site. Using the telescopes' Wiradjuri names acknowledges and respects the connection Wiradjuri People have to the land on which the telescopes sit. Formal acknowledgement policies for all Space and Astronomy telescopes and data usage can be found here.
